From: Ron.V To: cousin Phyllis Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2014 I was told that when he was younger, Alvin's wife invited a young preacher over for Sunday dinner. His family told me the rude, young preacher didn't even clean the mud off his boots as he haughtily walked up the front steps leaving mud prints across Alvin's living room floor. As he sat at the table waiting for his dinner, he told his host, "I have the easiest job in the world. I don't have to work hard like you do. All I have to do is preach a little on Sunday, go and visit the church members during the rest of the week, and I get fed good meals, same as you!" That was more than Uncle Alvin could take. His oldest son Clarence as well as other family members have told me the same story. Before waiting another minute, Alvin prompted jumped to his feet, grabbed the young preacher by the collar and seat of his pants, and threw him bodily down his front steps as he shouted to him, "And don't you ever set foot on my property again!" That was that. Alvin would have nothing to do with preachers or church from that day forward. I don't think that story is written anywhere but it needs to be. I should create a page for Alvin and include the story. Maybe I need a page with links for all the family stories I could tell. I wonder if it would prompt others to recall more family stories or legends? Ron.V
