2020-01-03 file updated 2016-01-25 file updated 2014-08-21 file created The FTDNA.com Y Haplogroup and SNPs page now says the following for I1's: Your Predicted Haplogroup is I-BY3406 (formerly I1, I-M253, I-Z63, etc. research is ongoing) Haplogroup I dates to 23,000 years ago, or older. The I1 lineage likely has its roots in northern France. Today it is found most frequently within Viking / Scandinavian populations in northwest Europe and has since spread down into Central and Eastern Europe, where it is found at low frequencies. Haplogroup I represents one of the first peoples in Europe. NOTE: Although Ron.V's Haplogroup has been confirmed by SNP testing, FTDNA predicts this Haplogroup with a near 100% accuracy so a prediction of this Haplogroup or a branch from it is good enough until SNP testing is warranted for other research.
