A transcript of the court held to discharge citizens from military duty due to age and infirmity. The record begins on Page 1 with an introduction then continues in the first paragraph of page 2 wherein John Vinson (d. 1787) was dis- charged from serving during the American Revolution due to age. [PAGE 1] The proceedings of a Court Martial begun and held in the County of Johnston at the Court House in the Town of Smithfield on the fifteenth day of August 1777 [PAGE 2] Ordered that the aged and infirm persons in Capt. Arthur Bryans Company be called & heard and Examined concerning their age & infirmity, & being called there appeared, James Buttler [sic], William Eason, Matthew Durham, William Wood Sen. Nicholas Ferrell, Robert Adams, Joseph Lawhon, John Vinson, John Norris Sen. John Brady, James Arrendal who were heard and Examined and on account of their age and infirmitys [sic] were dischared [sic] from the Militia Service of this County and Sworn agreeable to the Act of Assembly Richard Williby at the same time was discharged on acct of his present infirmity, untill [sic] he is able to serve again and not sworn ======
