His land value (size?) had increased in 10 years from $1,200 to $1,700 and his "personal estate" was valued $16,000, much more than any of his neighbors, two families of which were newlyweds. His residents are listed as: Lucinda Finch age 45 (b.1815 in GA) Misoura Finch age 17 (b.1843 in GA) Frances Finch age 15 (b.1845 in GA) Christopher C. Finch age 12 (b.1848 in AL) Also enumerated with the Finch Family is Aaron Vinson age 25 (b.1835 in GA) the wealthy young merchant and future husband Margaret Missouri whose personal estate was already worth $1,000. 1870 Census ----------- Census enumerated 27 June 1870 in Clay County, AL, Lists 79-year-old William Finch, (b.1791 in S.C.), as head of house. Kennedy age 52 (b.1828 in GA). sister-in-law, parents born in VA Next door there is a mysterious Thomas M Vinson, age 59 (b.1821 in GA) whose father is from Maryland and mother from Virginia. Both he and William Finch are shown as disabled. William was blind when this census was taken. 1900 Census ----------- Census enumerated 12 June 1900 in Coosa County, AL, tells us Lucinda was living with Chastine Duke (head of household), shown as an Aunt. According to the 1900 Census listing below, the wife of this house is Samantha [Dozier], granddaughter of Lucinda's sister, Elizabeth. See Cousin Faye Vincent's email. Census lists the following residents: Chastine Duke - head b. Apr 1852, age 48, m. 27 yrs Samantha Duke - wife b. Aug 1849, age 50, m. 27 yrs Aba M. Duke - Dau. b. Jun 1881, age 19 Joseph Duke - son b. Jun 1883, age 17 John H. Duke - son b. Apr 1885, age 15 Oliver Duke - son b. Jun 1887, age 13 Jim Berry Duke - son b. Dec 1889, age 10 Ines Duke - Dau b. Jan 1892, age 8 Lucindy Finch - Aunt b. Jun 1810, age 89, widow The record shows that Luncinda was born in GA but incorrectly shows both her parents also born there. She gave birth to 5 children all of whom were then living. It says she was born in Jun 1810. Her tombstone says she was born Apr 4, 1810. The census also says she could read and write and that she was married 70 years prior to becoming a widow. If her husband William died 1900 he would have lived to be 109. He obviously died sometime between 1880 and 1900. I haven't looked at Cousin Faye's sources that confirm the relationship between Chastine Duke's wife, Samantha, and Lucinda Finch but Faye is one of the most thorough and careful researchers I know. NOTE: The marriage record Cousin Faye referred to (8 Jan. 1832) is found in Campbell County, Georgia's Marriage Book A, on pages 8 & 9. In it, her surname is spelled "Kenedy."
