I think I got it from her tombstone. In the 1850 census she is 40, in 1860 (45), 1870 (59) 1880 (67) & 1900 (90). In 1900 Lucinda is in Coosa County, Marble Valley in the household of Chastine Duke & wife Samantha Dozier. Lucinda is listed as "Aunt". Samantha is the daughter of Saphoria Foster and Solomon Dozier. Saphoria is the daughter of David Foster and Elizabeth Canady (sister of Lucinda). Also in 1900 Christopher C Finch is in Coosa County in the household of Marshall Dozier. He is listed as "cousin." In 1850, 60, 70 & 80 he is in the household of William & Lucinda Finch. The Lucinda Canady, daughter of Caleb, who married William Finch in Campbell Co., Ga on January 2, 1832 looks like our Lucinda to me. I wondered why Lucinda was with a great neice in 1900 instead of one of her children. Mary died in 1898, John died in 1878 and Sarah was living in Arkansas. Looks like Christopher never married. I had always assumed Lucinda was living with Aaron and Margaret since Aaron, Oyer and Lucinda all died in early 1901 (Maude Kelly's notes mention flu ) so I was surprised when I found Lucinda and Christopher with the Doziers in Coosa County in 1900. I haven't looked at this in years but I did spend some time looking at the Canadys after wasting years trying to find "Lucinda Thompson." Subject: Re: From Ron Vincent - FTDNA Cousin Date: Wed, 7 May 2014 00:45:16 -0400 To: ronv@ronv.net Hello Ron, My name is Kim ... and I am the contact person for our family DNA project. I have 6 Cannady men and myself whom I have had tested through FTDNA. Thank you so much for contacting me. This certainly sheds light on some questions that I have had. First let me explain to you who we are and what our earliest proven family members are. Emanuel County, GA was formed Dec. 8, 1812. There were 5 Cannady/Cannaday/Kennedy men who obtained land in Emanuel County prior to 1819. These men were Edmund (45+), John, Henry and Solomon (26-45) and Samuel (b. 1795). Our earliest known ancestors we have are John and Sarah LNU Cannady/Kennedy. John was born 1777 in SC (according to census records) and died in Emanuel County, GA @ 1873. Sarah was b. @ 1800 in NC (according to census records) and disappeared after the 1850 census. In the 1820 census John and Sarah have a 3 month old male baby and a 16-26 y/o male. Their children from the 3 month old to the last female being born in 1839 are as follows: William E. Canady b. 1820 d. @ 1895 married Mary Polly Durden Elizabeth b. 1823 married James “Whiskey Jim” Edenfield James Henry Cannady/Kennedy b. 1825 d. 1853 married Temperence Durden Lucinda Cannady b. 1827 married William Hamilton Edenfield Wealthy Cannady b. 1829 married Richard Creech Edenfield Daniel Berrien Cannady (Will’s and my father’s line) b. 1831 d. 1879 married Rebecca Durden Narcissa Cannady b. 1833 d. @ 1880 married John “Redbeard” Edenfield Solomon P.W. Cannady b. 1835 d. @ 1875 married Elizabeth Edenfield Mary Cannady b. 1837 d. 1870 married James Alexander “Toby” Edenfield Girl Cannady b. 1839 d. after 1840 and before 1850 The Dna testing has brought forth a very interesting result for those of us studying the Emanuel County Cannadys. I have been able to test a male descendant (kit # 314384) of a Daniel Asbury Cannady, who was born @ 1800 and died @ 1849 in Emanuel County. Daniel appears in the 1830 census in very close proximity or even next door to our John Cannady. What is interesting is that Joey’s Dna from Daniel A’s lineage is exactly the same in number results as my father. He is even closer than Will and Dr. Robert Canady’s results are to my father. So how I am choosing to interpret the results is that Daniel A must have been a son of our John from a previous marriage. This makes sense because we do not think John waited until he was 42 years old to get married the first time. Also, Daniel A. Cannady also had a daughter by the name of Lucinda. I do not recall if she died young but I do know there was a daughter by the name of Lucinda. Who were John’s parents? That is the million dollar question. So do you have information on Caleb Cannady/Kennedy? Years ago I obtained a listing of Caleb Kennedys children. What I have learned many years ago, when I tried to tie Caleb to my John was that Caleb is said to have been born to a William Kennedy in Virginia. Caleb also had a brother by the name of William. IS this correct and verified? I truly do not have any idea. What I have questioned is…Who is the young man by the name of John Cannady/Kennedy who travels with Caleb to Campbell County and Alabama? Why did John and Sarah’s two sons name a child John Caleb Cannady? Caleb and Mary Polly Evans ended up on land in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. A large portion of the farm land of that area is now under water in what is now called Lake Martin. I have learned that over 930 graves were moved when the TVA flooded the area in the 1900’s. Caleb was buried in Tallapoosa County but Mary went to live with a son and was buried in Coosa County, Alabama. I think it was the 1840 census that had Caleb and Mary living with a John (?) and Elizabeth Thornton in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Many of Caleb and Mary’s children bear the same names as our Emanuel County, GA Cannadys. ... I am Ron... My father['s father's]... mother was Margaret Missouri Finch (1843-1920) And her mother is said to have been Lucinda Canady or Cannady (1810-1901) I always thought Lucinda was a Thompson but my cousin and other's who've done research on her insist she was a Canady or Cannady. Perhaps you can prove this. Do you know if you have a Lucinda in your family? According to research done by my cousin Faye Vincent, Lucinda was 90 years old when she died in Coosa County, AL. Cousin Faye tells me Lucinda's father was Caleb (?) Canady and her mother was Mary Polly Evans. The 1880 Census shows she was born about 1813 and married to William Finch who was born about 1792. In 1880 they were living with a son, Christopher Finch age 33 and sister-in-law (to Christopher) Mary A Kennedy age 52 who was single (i.e. never married). Does any of this mean anything to you? Have I given you enough info to prove or disprove that we're related. I've been trying to find out more about my great-great-grandmother Lucinda, especially to prove her surname. For years, my family records have shown she was a Thompson. Now I'm finding out her maiden name was probably Cannady (or variant spelling). She is buried in the cemetery in Talladega. Here's the Find A Grave memorial: http://tinyurl.com/l27xhbw ... On one of my personal websites, I have a page about Lucinda's daughter Margaret with quite a bit about Lucinda on the same page. You can view the web page here: http://vincentfamily.org/Ancestors/Margaret_Finch/index.htm Please let me know if this matches any of your information. I'd love to find out more about the Finches and Lucinda's Cannady family. I know almost nothing about either family. Ron Vincent...
